What has STYLE got to do with men?

Why not, after all, men today are paying more attention to clothes, their grooming from their hair, skin, and nails. There are many well-dressed men today, though they may be still perplexed as to how much is sufficient when it comes to personal grooming due to the wide variety of brands and choices.

Style is not a display of wealth, but an EXPRESSION of IMAGINATION

Today, even in the midst of the pandemic with the majority of the company workforce still working from home (WFH), where business casual prevails, men's dressing and grooming continue to take a new twist. Ask a man who has the taste and dress with style and he will tell you that his fashion sense basically comes from his male icon either from movies or public figures. Or he may tell you that it basically comes from the sense of style from his dad, and the rest is an acquired skill that can be honed and improved with correct practice. Learning how to dress well is not as difficult as it may seem. Just like any game of tennis, soccer, car racing, or golf, the vast majority of players in all these activities spend an inordinate amount of time repeating the techniques to become an expert through intentional practice. In terms of acquiring a personal sense of style, a man can either acquire the skill through intentional practice or he can learn from experts like image consultants or personal stylists. Through one's preferred choice of learning, a man can achieve a true sense of his own very personal style, which is his 'Signature'.

If fashion is about expressing a point of view, men today aren't afraid to speak their minds

Some politicians worldwide have their own individual sense of style, and men are openly talking about their popular style philosophy; "I like to be comfortable, simplistic yet elegant." "You never go wrong with a nicely tailored suit,"  says MASCANA Bespoke Tailor.  "I do like surprises, like colourful lining or mixing a nice suit jacket with jeans and a T-shirt." All these comments are from my male associates and clients from all levels across industries.  Easing the transition from lockdown WFM casual T-shirts, men of style even if choose not to wear a dress shirt, will slip a Uniqlo T-shirt underneath the suit jacket or a well-tailored sport coat.  It presents a look of put-together, but it's not overly formal.

As face masks have gone from a rarity to staple, so why not make the best of it? We anticipate man with a personal sense of style will start matching their mask colours and patterns with their typical outfits. As we know, a man's fashion is all in the details. From the pocket square to the shoes, the little things can be the difference between looking good and looking great.

To achieve and know your Signature style (or personal style),  it is essential to know yourself.

A good image is about expressing your Personality and being Comfortable with How you Dress

Your 'Signature'

A good image is about expressing your PERSONALITY and being COMFORTABLE with how you dress whether you are at work, at home, or socializing. How would you describe your overall LOOK? What do you wear for work? What is your favourite jacket? What are your favourite shoes? These are some of the questions you may be asking yourself while looking into your closet.

According to Image Professionals, the following different styles are good examples of personal style for men:

Identify your 'Signature' or Style Personality. Are You ...

A CLASSIC man:

This is a man who dresses in a traditional and classic way and has the air of a gentleman. You are comfortable with your look and see no reason to change it. You don't like taking risks, are well-coordinated, and rarely experiment with different colour combinations.

A NATURAL man:

This is the man who is at ease in many situations. He feels like a good friend, approachable, very genuine, and sincere. You have a very relaxed attitude and you like clothes to be comfortable and are of easy maintenance.  You are the type that struggles the most with formal business wear.

An ELEGANT man:

You are a man of extremely fine taste - a man of distinction and refined with dignified presence. Fashion awareness to the Elegant man seems effortless with confidence and this signature personality has an immediate visual impact.

A DRAMATIC man:

This is a man who exudes confidence, independence and likes to get noticed. A peacock of a man. A Dramatic man projects a sophisticated image with a commanding look. His dressing style is non-classic, highly structured style and has an architectural component to it.  His dress sense projects prominence and imposing presence.

A ROMANTIC man:

This is a man with sex appeal. A Romantic man's appeal is his quiet strength, soft-spoken, with gentlemanly, supportive style personality. His dressing sense of style is non-classic, less structured, light and fluid.

A CREATIVE man:

Original and unique, a Creative man is artistic, innovative, unconventional, highly individualized, with a personality and style that carries an aura of unpredictability. His dressing style is one-of-a-kind with unlimited rules.  Black is often the colour of choice or serves as a backdrop for other colours and patterns.

Eating out at a restaurant for a business lunch or dinner, celebration, date, or other event puts your etiquette and social skills on full display- so how would you behave without embarrassing yourself or committing any faux pas? An important part of restaurant etiquette is proper table manners, which also applies when dining in other people's homes.
